ADOPTING SCIENCE-BASED FOREST LANDS GRAZING MANAGEMENT APPROACH. In order to attain food security and climate change resiliency through science-based forest lands grazing management approach, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 under the leadership of Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan, will hold its 1st Forest Lands Grazing Management (FLGM) Summit on Sept. 19-20, this year at the Villa Blanca Hotel, Tuguegarao City.

Licenses, Patents and Deeds Division (LPDD) Chief Remedios Pauig said this in a radio interview enjoining the participation of the 51 Forest Lands Grazing Management Agreement (FLGMA) holders, and concerned government agencies and stakeholders in the region.

“The summit will seek to account not only the improvement of ecosystems through grazing management but also the amount of meat supply and other derivatives produced by grazing animals,” Engr. Pauig emphasized as she explained the objectives of the said stakeholders forum.

She said the forum will serve as an avenue to update policies and procedures on grazing management, raise and resolve related issues and concerns, and strengthen partnership between and among the DENR and the FLGMA holders.

“The comprehensive development plans of our FLGMA holders covering more or less 19,000 hectares of pasture areas regionwide will be monitored and evaluated,” the LPDD Chief added.

The event which will be graced by the Federation of Cattle Raiser Association of the Philippines will highlight presentation on the region's FLGMA situationer, livestock meat supply and demand or food requirement, cattle and forage production, domestic and international animal movement, dairy products technology transfer, practical livestock handling, best practices on grazing, and rancher's success story.

Chief Pauig also announced the awarding of land titles to qualified beneficiaries dubbed "Handog Titulo Program" this last week of September in celebration of Lands Day.#

𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗬𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗙𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦. In its continued efforts to transform public servants to excellent future leaders, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 has added 23 graduates to the roster of ENR Academy (ENRA) Basic Course completers.

In the recently concluded graduation ceremony of ENRA Batch 6 Versatile, Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan of the DENR reminded the graduates of the goal of the seven-day training to hone employees with knowledge on DENR environmental laws and core values.

“Apply the skills and knowledge you have gained from this course because that is the best way you can improve your performance,” said RED Bambalan.

She emphasized the 70-20-10 principle of learning where 70 % is acquired from application through experience, 20 % from coaching and mentoring from supervisors and peers, and 10 % from attending learning event.

"Through the ENRA Courses, we build competent employees and future leaders because part of the Agency's human resource actions are updating its career development and succession plans," she added.

The regional environment chief appreciated the Regional Mobile Training Team and its Secretariat led by Assistant Regional Executive Director Ismael Manaligod and Enforcement Division Chief Joel Daquioag, for conducting excellent ENRA training program for Basic and Frontline Courses in the region.

Meanwhile, Atty. Manaligod also emphasized the importance of the course to develop not only the competency of employees but also the performance of the Agency. "Everybody needs to function and contribute to attain and institutionalize the system of strategic performance management in our organization," he stressed.

The ENRA Courses aim to equip employees with knowledge on ENR laws, public service accountability, and service excellence. With the learning courses, DENR employees are also motivated to develop their personality and advance their competencies which will ultimately result to improved performance.

At the end of every course, recognition is given to top performing learner-employees.#

𝗘𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗞𝗜𝗗𝗦. In support of the Department of Education’s advocacy for reading dubbed “𝘏𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘯: 𝘉𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘵 𝘉𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘉𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘢”, the provincial environment and natural resources office in Batanes conducted an after-school reading mediation featuring the stories “𝘛𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘒𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯” and “Sarah: 𝘒𝘢𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘢” among 40 Grade III students of Diptan Elementary School in San Antonio, Basco, Batanes.

The story-reading entitled “𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘥𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘨𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘢” led by Information Officer Nesley Maye Reyes and ENR Ambassador Amry Jane Salengua aims to introduce basic concepts of environmental awareness and responsibility among the pupils.

Environmental games were also facilitated to the students that featured the identification of extinct animals and world animals, including the recycling of waste.

To sustain the environmental education in the said school, various information, education, and communication materials were distributed to the school advisers and participants.

The activity was conducted in accordance with the school’s second phase of Project Reading AYUDA (Assisting Young Learners for better Understanding and Development through Active Reading).#

RAISING AWARENESS ON PRESERVING EXOTIC WILDLIFE. In support of the 1st Cagayan Exotic Pet Expo 2022 launched today at the Robinsons Place in Tuguegarao City, Assistant Regional Executive Director for Technical Services Marcos Dacanay of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 has urged the public to preserve wildlife species.

“We are fortunate for having this opportunity to show the public real exotic pets which roles are important in our lives and environment,” ARED Dacanay said as he explained the provision of Republic Act 9147 or the "Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act".

ARED Dacanay who represented Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan emphasized that under the law, acquiring wildlife is not allowed unless permitted by the DENR.

The exhibit, which showcases the different kinds and breeds of snakes, iguanas, bearded dragons, among others, aims to increase awareness on the importance of exotic wildlife species. It also reminds the public not to harm or kill these creatures because of their contribution to nature's ecological balance.

“Individuals who own exotic pets at home after having been evaluated as eligible to take care of these species must secure a Certificate of Wildlife Registration for monitoring,” the ARED added.

Engr. Dacanay together with Marketing Officer Krystann Jett Acidera of Robinsons Place Tuguegarao and Ivan Salva and Norman Roquios, both owners and exotic pet breeders of Northern Animalia and White Dragon Reptile, respectively, led the opening of the five-day exotic pet exhibit at the said mall.#
