Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Solid Waste Management and Local Government Units Concerns Benny D. Antiporda(right photo) points to the 5.2-hectare Irisan open dumpsitein Baguio City which continues to operate despite a closure order issued by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) in 2012. Antiporda ordered the Environmental Management Bureau in the Cordillera Administrative Region to immediately issue a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) to the local government of Baguio City for the continued operation of the dumpsite and its non-compliance to the demands of the Writ of Kalikasan. Antiporda said the CDO will be issued pending explanation ofsaid non-compliance and the submission of a Safe Closure and Rehabilitation Plan as required under Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.Joining Antiporda in the ocular inspection are DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations-Northern Luzon Joselin Marcus Fragada (center) and DENR-CAR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo (3rd from right). ###

 Ms Philippines Earth candidates flash their respective copies of a magazine promoting a vegan life following a discussion on the importance of eating healthy and acquiring life-long dietary habitswith Ms. Nona Andaya-Castillo (extreme right),founder of LuntianLunes. The healthy talk is part of the Environmental Seminar hosted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently at the training center of the Biodiversity Management Bureau in Quezon City. The candidates were also briefed on the Manila Bay rehabilitation efforts of the government led by DENR. ###

Ms. Chona Tura (right photo), senior science research specialist at Coastal, Resources and Ecotourism Research, Development and Extension Center (CRERDEC), presents her study on the biodiversity profile and carrying capacity of the Lamanoc Island Mystic and Mangrove Tours in Bohol. Tura presented the study during the First Annual Technical Seminar organized by the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) in Los Banos, Laguna on Monday, June 17, 2019. She recommends that the current efforts in the conservation, management, and protection of mangrove, terrestrial, and coastal resources in the island must be strengthened and sustained. ###
