MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. The top officials of the environment department in Region 2 recently held a dialogue with the new chief of the Philippine Coast Guard in North Eastern Luzon for a strengthened partnership to protect the coastal and marine resources in Cagayan province.

The dialogue was conducted during the courtesy visit of District Commander Gregorio Adel Jr. at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Tuguegarao City.

DENR Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan expressed her appreciation to the coast guard for the support in the protection of the Palaui Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (PIPLS) and the coastal areas in downstream Cagayan.
“Your presence in Palaui Island is important for the safety of our tourists when we reopen tourism activities,” Director Bambalan said as she gave a nod on the PCG’s request for the use of DENR facilities in Sta. Ana town.

In response, Commodore Adel assured their continued efforts not only in maritime search and rescue, law enforcement and safety but also in marine environmental protection.

He added that the PCG is strengthening their commitment in providing a better maritime service for the stakeholders which will ultimately promote peace, security and prosperity in North Eastern Luzon.

Assistant Regional Directors Marcos Dacanay and Ismael Manaligod joined the regional environment chief in the meeting.
With the district commander were LT Miguel Angelo Gangan, ENS Lindy Shane Omisol and SW2 Catherine Ramos.#
