INTENSIFIED SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT. Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn C. Bambalan leads the DENR employees in the Panunumpa ng Pakikiisa during the synchronized launch of the "Intensified Solid Waste Management in the Regional Government Center (RGC) in Tuguegarao City" on Dec. 14.

“Makikiisa ako sa kaayusan at kalinisan ng aking lugar na pinaglilingkuran at higit sa lahat sa sarili kong tirahan at komyunidad. Ipapakita ko na ako ay isang ehemplo ng tama at simpleng pagbabasura upang tularan ang pamamaraan ko,” the employees pledged.

Director Bambalan said as part of the intensified implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 within the RGC, the DENR will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) thru its Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program.

The DENR will identify indigent individuals who will be tasked to clean and green the RGC and will be paid a 14-day wage rate under the TUPAD Program.

“This will be called Handog Pamasko ng DOLE at DENR para sa Inang Kalikasan,” said the regional environment chief emphasizing the need to protect the environment.

She urged the DENR employees to be aggressive and proactive. "We have to be serious because that is our mandate and people are looking at us on how we perform our job," Director Bambalan said.

According to Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Lilia dL. Abel who chairs the Technical Working Group for Ecological Solid Waste Management under the Regional Government Center Management Council (RGCMC), DENR Regional Office 2 is the only compliant agency in the Mandatory Waste Segregation to all government offices along the RGC implemented by the city government.

“We are now the model. Because of our efforts, other government agencies will duplicate our best practices in the implementation of solid waste management in the workplace,” ARD Abel said.

The RCGMC will conduct regular monitoring to ensure compliance of the agencies.#
