The different government agencies of the province of Nueva Vizcaya are currently working on the updating of the Capisaan Caves System Management Plan.

Spearheaded by the Protected Area Superintendent (PASu) of Casecnan Protected Landscape Junny Vic M. Andaya with the supervision of OIC CENR Officer of CENRO Dupax Bernardino B. Aganon, a workshop was done on October 7, 2021 at the People’s Museum, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. The Technical Working Group chaired by CENRO Aganon tackled about the activities needed for the updating of the plan.

Present were the members of the TWG For. Roger G. Havoc, Jr. from the ENR Officer, PENARO; Rhonmiel P. Paras from the Provincial Engineering Office; Dr. Jason Q. Caranza from NVSU; the Assisting Professional Jovito B. Layugan, Jr; Geologist Maya Josephine Almirol, the embedded personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau and staff from the PENR Office and CENR Office of Dupax.

Decided on the final schedule to visit the cave on October 22-24, the TWG needs to do the cave re-assessment, vulnerability assessment, and determination of carrying capacity.

During the workshop, the Assisting Professional, Jovito B. Layugan Jr. presented his monitoring of the installed barriers outside the Lion Cave to control flooding. The material will be one of the considerations in the management plan.

Another presentation was made by Dr. Jason Q. Caranza of the Nueva Vizcaya State University in his study Recreational Value, Sensitivity and Disturbance Assessment of the Capisaan Cave System, Nueva, Vizcaya Philippines will also be another reference in the updating of the plan.

The group is looking forward to the subsequent activities to complete the data that will suffice the updating of the management plan of Capisaan Caves System.#(CENRO Dupax, Nueva Vizcaya)
