National top officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) emphasized solid waste management and partnership with local government units (LGUs) during the 3rd quarter regional management conference in Region 2.
Undersecretary Benny Antiporda of the Solid Waste Management and Local Government Units Concerns in his inspirational message in the opening program held today said efficient solid waste management is one of the most important basic services that the DENR can provide to the public.
“Poor solid waste management means a dirty environment and an unproductive populace…Let us create a healthy and productive citizenry, and that starts by promoting a clean environment through efficient solid waste management,” he added.
USec Antiporda congratulated Region 2 for working hand-in-hand with the LGUs in the region and teaching them how to turn waste materials into useful products. “Some LGUs remain on track and committed by making good use of materials available to them. Other LGUs on the other hand encourage their residents to be more sensible and creative in the proper waste disposal,” he said.
In his message delivered by Assistant Secretary Gilbert Gonzales, Undersecretary for Field Operations and Environment Juan Miguel Cuna underscored that Region 2 has has been very efficient in ensuring that all activities for this year are accomplished.
Undersecretary Cuna also lauded the region for the recent signing of the memorandum of partnership agreement with local chief executives for land titling activities in 12 municipalities.
Presiding over the management conference, Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan said the recent initiatives of the region to build partnership with the LGUs, other government agencies and stakeholders demonstrate the region’s intent to connect with people and build bridges because this will make the tasks easier.
The Cagayan Valley environment chief acknowledged the personnel of the regional and field offices of the DENR, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB for making sure that there is no letup in the delivery of quality service to the people and the environment despite the challenges brought about by the corona virus disease. “Really, there is no hard task if we work as one DENR,” she enthused.
With the theme “Achieving Goals with Excellence Amidst Pandemic Challenges,” the regional management conference is held to revisit the implementation of programs, projects and activities of the DENR and the two bureaus.
The catch-up plans for the unaccomplished targets and the fourth quarter activities will be presented by the EMB, MGB, PENROs and CENROs. Financial status, and updates on the Cagayan River Restoration Project and the Forestland Management Project will also be reported.
Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service Director Hiro Masuda will discuss the Eligibility Process and Career Executive Service Awards.
The conference is being attended by Assistant Regional Directors Marcos Dacanay and Lilia Abel, bureau Regional Directors Mario Ancheta and Nelson Honrado, and key officials of the DENR and field offices.#
