Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Gorely (right) pays a courtesy call on Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez on Friday, where she conveys the interest of some Australian companies for possible joint venture in local ecotourism.  Lopez, on the other hand, explains her vision of making the country’s  environment better, eyeing Australia as a model due to its “stringent environmental laws”, and of helping poor communities across the country through entrepreneurship. ###

‘SOCIAL JUSTICE’ RESPONSIVE BUDGET

Edwin Bellen (third from left).  Lopez was guest speaker at the Senate’s flag raising ceremony on Monday where she underscored her plan to work closely with the Philippine Senate to institute reforms in the environment sector “to get the country out of poverty.” Other Senate officials present were (from left): Economic Planning Director-General Ronald Golding; External Affairs Deputy Secretary Peter Paul Pineda; Sergeant-at-arms Major General Jose Balajadia, Jr.; Senate Legal Counsel Atty. PROTECTING LAKE LANAO

Environment Secretary Gina Lopez successfully rallied Fr. Alfredo Ubas Albor (left), chairman of the United Indigenous People’s Alliance of Mindanao and Imam Ebra M. Moxir (right), president of the Imam Council of the Philippines to save Lanao Lake from further deterioration during the first SALUGNAYAN or SALu-salo at UGNAYan para sa Kalikasan held September 1, 2016 at the DENR central office in Quezon City.  Around 80 leaders of various civil society organizations from across the country attended the meeting called by Lopez to build and strengthen partnerships at the grassroots level for the implementation of livelihood projects in 14 convergence areas. ###
