DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda (2nd from right) assures barangay leaders in Tondo, Manila  of DENR’s support to their  efforts on preventing relocated informal settlers from returning to the banks of  Estero de Magdalena  which empties into Manila Bay via the Pasig River.   Antiporda met with the 12 barangay officials which have jurisdiction over the six-kilometer waterway  last January 17, 2019 at the DENR main office  in Quezon City to brief them on the “Pag-aalaga ng Estero De Magdalena Action Plan” being implemented by  the Task Force DENR Enforcers  Metro Manila (TF-DEMM) pursuant to the  Supreme Court’s 2008 Writ of Continuing Mandamus. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (right) welcomes former Senator and media personality Eddie Ilarde during the Stakeholders’ Meeting for Manila Bay Rehabilitation held Tuesday (Jan. 15) at the DENR Central Office in Quezon City. An environmental advocate, Ilarde is pushing for the expansion of the Manila Bay rehabilitation efforts to include the Pasig River and the Laguna de Bay, saying the three bodies of water are interconnected, and if cleaned simultaneously, will “help the economy and put to maximum use” the country’s natural resources. ###

Former Environment Secretary Elisea Gozun is welcomed by DENR officials led by DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (to Gozun’s left) and DENR Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Rodolfo Garcia to the Stakeholders’ Meeting for the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program held Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the DENR office in Quezon City. Around 200 representatives from the 13 mandamus agencies, including local government units, were on hand to express support to the planned rehabilitation of the historical bay, which President Duterte ordered cleaned up by the government to be led by Secretary Cimatu. ###

DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu describes the Manila Bay rehabilitation as his “most challenging” mission yet, but considers it not a mission impossible with the effort and full support of the 12 Manila Bay mandamus agencies and all stakeholders. Cimatu discussed the approved three-phase Manila Bay rehabilitation plan in a recent meeting with Manila Bay stakeholders. Cimatu is joined in the panel (L-R): former Senator Eddie Ilarde, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, DENR Assistant Secretary for Anti-Corruption Atty.
