After learning the effects of improper waste management, student leaders of the Cagayan National High School in Tuguegarao City have committed to practice and advocate for proper segregation and disposal of wastes.

In the environmental symposium dubbed as β€œTitindig para sa Kalikasan” held on Jan. 30, this year, the participants composed of Junior High School class presidents and club officers were oriented on the salient features of Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Forester Ricky Sibbaluca of the Environmental Management Bureau Region 2 encouraged the students to practice proper waste segregation at source. He also urged the school heads to maintain its material recovery facility for proper management of wastes accumulated in the school.

Regional Youth Desk Officer Ralffe Concepcion of DENR Region 2 enjoined the students to become ambassadors of environmental preservation by practicing recycling and upcyling of wastes.

He also introduced Pinas: The Basura Buster as the icon of the Department in its ecological solid waste management advocacy campaign.

In his message, Head Teacher John Benedict Asino underscored the important roles of the youth in ensuring a clean and healthy environment. β€œMay this symposium unite us to make actions for the environment,” he said.#
