IMPROVED WATERSHEDS THROUGH FORESTLAND MANAGEMENT

In the Mid-year Assesment recently conducted in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, the DENR through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices of Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya reported a total of 25,377 hectares of forest plantations established in the said provinces.

 

"We should take responsibilities by heart in order to ensure the sustainability of what we have started on this project that contributed in the development of our watershed areas," Nueva Vizcaya PENR Officer Giovannie Magat said.

 

In addition, 36 agroforestry support facilities (ASF) were turned over to the local government units and People’s Organizations (POs).

 

Among the turned over facilities were projects on road improvement, pathway, bridges, irrigation pipeline system, among others.

Through the ASF, the POs and local residents have now better access to market and basic services which support their reforestation works.

 

Meanwhile, Conservation and Development Division Chief Enrique Pasion also emphasized the need to have full commitment in the maintenance and protection activities of established plantations.

 

The FMP which ends this 2022 is a 10-year partnership project between the Philippine Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. It also seeks to strengthen the management of critical river basins in the Philippines through collaborative and comprehensive community-based forest management strategies.

 

The assessment was focused on the project's physical and financial status of accomplishments.#
