PHILIPPINE ARBOR DAY 2022. More than 5,000 bamboo propagules and indigenous species were planted yesterday in the entire region in celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day.

Led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the leadership of Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan, the massive tree planting activity was joined by representatives from the national government agencies, local government units, religious sectors, people's organizations, civil society organizations and academe.

Director Bambalan has emphasized the importance of tree growing. She appealed to the partners to ensure the survival of the planted seedlings.

Among the planted indigenous species were Narra, Kalumpit, Bitaog, Ipil, Riwas, Aluyi, Yakal, Kamagong, Bignai, Talisay, Bitaog, Botong and Tuai.

The bamboo propagules were planted along the Cagayan River and its tributaries in support of the Cagayan River Restoration Project under the Build Back Better initiatives of the government.

Seedlings and information, education and communication materials were also distributed after the tree planting.
The Philippine Arbor Day has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25 throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants.

All government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, private sector, schools, civil society groups and the citizenry are enjoined to plant trees under Presidential Proclamation No. 396, s. 2003.#
