COLLABORATIVE GOVERNANCE. In her recent visit to Cagayan Valley, Assistant Secretary Joan Lagunda of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has lauded Region 2 for its effective engagement of stakeholders.

Region 2 for doing your job very well,” ASec Lagunda said after Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan presented the region's initiatives in engaging the different sectors in the implementation of the agency’s programs and projects.
Under the leadership of Director Bambalan, the DENR has intensified its convergence with law enforcement agencies for forest protection and natural resources conservation. It also partnered with the mining companies and private sectors for reforestation efforts; and other national government agencies and local government units to harmonize the implementation of ENR programs and policies.
 
“The challenge on the ground now is how you sustain these partnerships kasi maganda na ang inyong nasimulan. I hope you will be able to continue these efforts,” ASec Lagunda added.
 
As the concurrent Director for Pasig River Coordinating and Management Office, the national environment official also shared their milestones in rehabilitating the 27-kilometer Pasig River, one of the priority bodies of water in the country.
 
In her message, Director Bambalan thanked the assistant secretary for visiting Cagayan Valley and for sharing best practices which can be replicated for the Cagayan River Rehabilitation Project under the Build Back Better initiatives.
 
Assistant Regional Executive Directors Marcos Dacanay and Ismael Manaligod, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Director Mario Ancheta, provincial and community environment and natural resources officers, and other key staff were present in the dialogue.#
