BAMBOO RESEARCH AREA LAUNCH. Key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Baggao, Cagayan participated in the planting of over 160 bamboos in Brgy. Masical.

The bamboo planting held on October 22 marked the launch of the Bamboo Experimental Area established by the DENR, LGU Baggao and former DENR official Corazon Davis.

Earlier in August, Director Bambalan, Mayor Joan Dunuan and Davis signed a partnership agreement for the establishment of a bamboo development facility in the 8.24-hectare lot owned by the latter in the said barangay.

According to the DENR Region 2 chief, the plantation area will serve as learning laboratory in support to the National Greening Program and for the Cagayan River Rehabilitation Project. This will also provide livelihood opportunities to the communities in the said town.

The DENR has earlier committed to facilitate trainings on bamboo production while the local government will provide technical assistance in the production of bamboos including security assistance in the premises of the area.

With Director Bambalan were Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Eliseo Mabasa, Alcala Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Aida Adap and other DENR personnel.#
