GREENING AND EARNING. With its goal to help in the reforestation programs of the government while uplifting the lives of its members, Holy Trinity Agro-Forestry Multi-Purpose Cooperative (HTAFMPC) has been an active partner of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 2 in the National Greening Program (NGP).
In the NGP site visit yesterday, members of the cooperative harvest fruits from their agro-forestry plantation in Rang-Ayan, City of Ilagan in Isabela.
The area is part of the 100-hectare NGP area awarded to the cooperative in 2014 planted with Narra, Mahogany, Gmelina, yellow bamboo, Cacao, Bignai, Marang, Mango, Rambutan, Guyabano and Duhat.
According to Richard Agcaoili, coop manager, the area was then a barren land and a pasture site full of cogon and shrubs. “Dahil sa NGP at sa tulong ng DENR, nakapag establish kami ng plantation at kumikita na ngayon ang mga miyembro pantustos sa kanilang mga pangangailangan,” he said.
He also said the water supply in the area has improved and birds are sighted nesting in the trees.
Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENR) Officer Rolando Siggayo said the members of the cooperative are hardworking and very active in seedling production. “They generate additional income from the seedlings they produce,” he added.
He also said CENR Office Naguilian personnel regularly conduct monitoring and evaluation in the plantation area to maintain its high survival rate.
The HTAFMPC is a fast-growing and multi-awarded cooperative with over 1,000 members.#
