MANAGEMENT REVIEW. Key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Cagayan Valley participated in the virtual management conference on March 24-25.
 
The two-day conference was held to assess the physical and financial performance of the DENR regional and field offices and the line bureaus in the first quarter of calendar year 2021. It was also conducted to chart plans and targets in the implementation of the department’s priority programs and projects.
 
Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan in her message thanked the officials and employees for their full support and cooperation to the priority directives of the national and regional top management.
 
"Despite this trying times, the show must go on. We should rise above our present predicament otherwise, we will all drown,” she said.
 
The regional environment chief also reiterated the tall order of Secretary Roy Cimatu to intensify surveillance and detection operations against destructive activities in the forests, and to improve the implementation of the National Greening Program.
She announced the recent order of Secretary Cimatu that protected areas should be planted with indigenous species, and riverbanks with bamboos.
 
During the management conference, Regional Director Mario Ancheta of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Regional Director Virgilio Edralin Licuan, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers reported their respective accomplishments.
 
The implementation plan for the Build Back Better (BBB) initiatives was presented by Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Marcos Dacanay.
 
As part of the BBB initiatives, the MGB was tasked to assist in the conduct of geohazard assessment of identified proposed relocation sites. The EMB shall conduct water quality monitoring of the Magapit Narrows in Lal-lo, Cagayan where dredging operation is on-going.
 
Meanwhile, Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Lilia Abel led the discussion of updates on Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management, Strategic Performance Management System and Quality Management System.#
