PLANTING FOR HEALTHY LUNGS. Batanes OIC, Office of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Victoria D. Baliuag joins officials from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Health, local government units (provincial to barangay) and Parish Youth Movement including private individuals in a tree planting.
 
The group planted over 100 Malugai (Pometia pinnata) and coconut seedlings at Sitio Racuaydi, Barangay Diura of Mahatao town. The tree planting was initiated by the Mahatao Rural Health Unit under the leadership of Acting Municipal Health Officer John Ruben A. Esperanza. Prior to the tree planting, the participants took part in the fun run that started from the town’s covered court and ended at the planting site.
 
The two events were held in celebration of this year’s Lung Month with the theme “BREATHE: Celebrating Lung Month 2020 While Facing the Challenges of a New Normal”.
 
Technical Services Division Chief Dionicio C. Deundo, Supervising Ecosystems Management Specialist Ariel L. Lagua, Park Maintenance Foreman Ariel S. Agabin, Forest Technician Mariz P. Calma and Forest Protection Officer Maribel G. Bermejo also participated in the two events. The PENR Office provided the Malugai seedlings.#
