CLEARING WATERWAYS FOR LIVELIHOOD AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY. To clear the waterways for livelihood and environmental sustainability, the provincial environment and natural resources sub-office of Cagayan in collaboration with the city government of Tuguegarao conducted cleanup along the Caritan-Balzain creek in celebration of World Water Day on March 22, this year with the theme "Accelerating Change."
 
The cleanup that facilitated the removal of over 1,000 kilos overgrown water lilies using three bancas was participated in by street sweepers, barangay officials and residents, and other volunteers.
 
In support of gender and development program, the collected lilies will be processed through weaving to make bags and furnitures as part of the women livelihood project of the city and barangay local government units.
 
Bamboo propagules were also planted along the esteros.
 
Meanwhile, the DENR field offices also conducted cleanup, tree growing, radio guesting, Information, Education and Communication campaign; and distributed IEC materials to enhance water quality in the region.#
