Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cagayan Valley Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan encourages the public to participate in the agency’s tree hugging campaign as a way of celebrating Valentine’s Day.

The tree hugging campaign was initiated by the Forest Management Bureau and will be launched by DENR Region 2 on Feb. 14 with the theme β€œPuno Ng Pag-Ibig.”

β€œLet us hug a tree as an expression of our love for the environment. This promotes social and health benefits as we nurture the trees and forests as a whole,” said Director Bambalan over a radio interview earlier.

She added hugging trees can also help relieve stress and reduce anxiety levels as proven by scientific studies.

Officials and employees of the agency will participate by hugging centennial trees, to include native or indigenous tree species in the region.

Aside from the tree hugging, part of the β€˜Puno ng Pag-ibig’ launch is the conduct of tree growing activities at the Rogelio B. Baggayan Nature Park and Wildlife Center in Tuguegarao City and in the different provinces.

β€œWe will also conduct tree growing activities in areas where water supply is available to ensure the growth of the seedlings as summer season is already approaching,” added the lady director.

Cleanup drive along the regional government center, distribution of seedlings from participating DENR offices, and a physical fitness activity will also mark the launch of the said event.#
